TRENDS PARIS
2:40pm - Feb 13, 2010

The return of the 80's fashion also meant the return of leather.  For those of us who don't want to look like a member of a biker gang, Celine's Spring 2010 cut black and woody brown leathers into chic little dresses, sharp skirts and t-shirts.

Great look !

Tissue-thin knits became trendy this Spring, and next Spring we are fully on board as they are perfect for wearing over the plethora or warm-weather prints even as they protect from air conditioner and evening chills.  Louis Vuitton has simply stunning knitwear.  At Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld paired his chic suits and whimsical frocks with hose featuring cool garter and espadrille lace prints.  A classier take on the printed tight trend for the ladies-who-lunch set.

From Valentino to Giambattista Valli to Commuun to Stella McCartney, over-the-top ruffles and tiers were all the Spring '10 Paris runways.  We can't wait to pair a flouncy blouse/ruffled mini dress with a cropped leather tux jacket, fedora and ankle boots for Spring.

Where there are ruffles and lace, there are leathers and studs.  John Galliano carried that idea forward by presenting his line of ultra femme separates - sheer little dresses, swaying skirts with floppy hats and oversized jackets and vests.

TRENDS LONDON
2:22pm - Feb 13, 2010

We can say a lot about the t-shirts of designer Ashish Gupta, who says his signature is "sequins, glamour, sportswear and more sequins", turned out sequins graphic tee after sequins graphic tee, glamorizing the traditional tacky tee and referencing Nike too.

Christopher Bailey, Creative Director for Burberry Prorsum sent several variations of the coat dress down the runway - all of which we can't wait to rock with ankle booties, square framed sunglasses and wide brimmed sun visors.

Printed suits popped up at several Spring 2010 shows in London including Fashion East, House of Holland and Josh Goot.  Liking them, because you can rock the blazers separately with jeans or a solid colored dress.

It was all about prints at the London shows and Josh Goot, Basso & Brooke, Mary Katrantzou and Matthew Williamson went trippy with theirs sending acid-laced prints down the runway in eye popping dresses, statement jackets, and graphic trousers.

Calvin Klein's Italo Zucchelli played with ombre in his Fall '09 collection, laying different shades of grey over each other. This season, designer Jsen Wintle expanded on the idea creating ombre suits.

TRENDS MILAN
1:39pm - Feb 13, 2010

Slashed fabric (see Emporia Armani, left) and strategic twists and ties (Emilio Pucci, left) made of some very sexy swimwear on the Milan runways.  I wouldn't remommend wearing these against bare flesh.  Layer over a bright one-piece or bikini, slip on a pair of shorts and slides, throw a women beach basket over your shoulder and dunzo. You're the hautest girl at the beach.

Antonia Marras showed models toting bags in prints taken from the jackets/skirts/dresses they were wearing. Loved the idea of a bag for a specific outfit and also mixing it up by carrying the bag while wearing a clashing print - another trend that's big for fall '09 and Spring '10.

Lace has been taken out of the attic, shaken out, and infused with cool in the Spring '10 shows.  In London, Caroline Charles and Jasper Conran were among the designers who used the sometimes treacly fabric to create lush, luxe, and hipster looks.  In Milan, Marni Spring 2010 also featured a cool not-your-Grandma's lace tunic dress.

Slip this on (over a slip please), then step into a pair of espadrilles and you'll be good to go next Spring.

Every now and then a lady wants to feel wrapped up like the luxe gift that she is.  Aquilano Rimondi and Love Sex Money get that and created highly-constructed homages for their respective Spring 2010 lines.

Usually, sheer dresses are long, sexy, and floating in dreamy panels as a leggy model strides down the runway, but for Spring '10, in keeping with the tough girl / edgy romance vibe of the season, Fendi presented a little white deconstructed dress, while Roberto Cavalli created this rough, ruffled, gently-tiered look for his diffusion line, Just Cavalli.
